Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is quite an interesting place. It’s situated at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers where the states of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia meet. It has some rich little history and is very unique as a National Park – there is hiking and the Appalachian Trail passes through it and there are museums and a town that has both historically accurate and actual old buildings and also new shops and restaurants.

We were also really excited to use our “America the Beautiful” National Park Pass for the first time! Woohoo. We need 4 park visits before it pays for itself!

We had to cross the Potomac to get to the hiking areas. So the little historic town was in West Virginia but the hiking that brought us to the grand overlook of the whole place was in Maryland.

We yelled to the tubers below and they told us the water was really nice! That looked really fun.

We were excited to be on the actual Appalachian Trail for about a mile.

It was 2.5 miles to the top of the overlook and it was quite the hike.

Danger boy getting his shot. But actually there were rocks under him too.

Both the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers were so gorgeous with so many rocks and little rapids and interesting features.

We were so tired and hungry by the time we got back to town but we had a very nice lunch at a cute little patio restaurant.
