Our 50 state adventure to celebrate our 50th birthdays

Hot Springs Historic District

We did a short hike the first night to the hot springs that feed right into the Rio Grande. This was an area developed in the 1900’s that people visited for it’s healing properties. The springs are a continuous 105 degrees. The area we hiked through included some of the old broken down buildings and parts of the resort.

We only saw one tunnel in all of Big Bend, near the springs turnoff.

The old post office and store built in the early 1900’s.

The continuous bubbling was fascinating.

We continued up past the springs and were VERY surprised to come upon wild horses.

We hadn’t heard or read any information about horses and yet we encountered them numerous times in different parts of the park. They didn’t seem scared at all and let us get very close.

Cute little baby following mama.
